The leading power and automation technology group ABB has agreed to buy Lorentzen & Wettre from ASSA ABLOY AB (publ) for a price of about $119 million (SEK 750 million), to strengthen its business in the pulp and paper area.

Stora Enso Oyj and its joint venture partner in Chile, Arauco will construct a pulp mill worth $1.9 billion in Uruguay, the Finnish-Swedish paper maker said recently.

To be located in Punta Pereira, Colonia, the plant will have 1.3 million tons annual capacity and is likely to be prepared in 2013. In the mill’s equity, the companies will have a 50 percent stake each and will be permitted to half of the output, said Stora.

Caraustar Industries, Inc. announced today that it will increase prices by $50 per ton on all grades of uncoated recycled paperboard and converted products produced by its mills; the increase is effective with shipments on and after February 8, 2010.
